Zero Hunger

Child hunger remains a global problem and most families in rural areas simply cannot afford food. Other areas are not developed with safe roadways making food difficult to transport there. Various reasons include unemployment, social unrest and even climate changes which have affected the agricultural patterns. Since 2009, we as an organization we have answered the call to help improve the issue of hunger. We have been distributing mealie meal and nutritious drink (maheu) to the beneficiaries so that they can go to school with something in their stomach. Most of the children can even come to school without eating anything. Munyarari Primary School is one of the schools which we have been assisting with food because education is meaningless if we cannot put food in children’s stomach. School feeding is a great tool to encourage education and provide food aid to children born into extremely underprivileged situations.

Quality Education

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. For the past 13 years we have been supporting quality education in rural areas and child development as much as possible. As an organization we noticed that there is no reason why rural areas cannot receive the same quality education or opportunities as those in urban areas. We offered 6 tables and 12 benches .The furniture was allocated to the grade seven classes and this was aimed on improving the children’s school work. Students were finding it difficult to learn because of poor furniture and this disturbed them academically. The pass rate of examinations has been increasing and almost 80 % of our beneficiaries have done well. Since 2009 we have been paying school fees for the beneficiaries and made sure they don’t miss out on lessons. Munyarari Primary School has also been receiving stationery for the students to use for school work. We chose the most vulnerable beneficiaries and gave them shoes and uniforms. Some of the children would come to school bare footed and others with no uniforms hence the need for the organization to assist such children.

Industry, Innovation and Infastructure

A functioning and resilient community requires a foundation of strong industry, innovation and infrastructure. To meet future challenges, we need to be innovative. As an organization we chose to be innovative through agriculture education. Agriculture education is important in schools because students learn ways to efficiently feed a growing population and gain a better understating of food production and distribution. In support to this , we provided out 3 wheelbarrows, 5 garden rakes and 9 watering cans .The donations was also intended to give the children a fresh perspective about agriculture so that they can see it as an opportunity to lift people out of poverty and hunger . Along with that, with the help of our beneficiaries, we dug a fish pond for fish farming measuring 150 m3.

Good health and wellbeing

A good mental and physical health is two of life’s greatest blessings and as an organization we make sure that we safeguard our beneficiaries. Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have. At Munyarari School, we are always ensuring that the children are always staying in good health and their wellbeing is our priority too. We continuously provide food hampers to the beneficiaries of Mwana Trust. These food hampers include cooking oil, mealie meal, sugar and nutritious drinks. By so doing, we always try to reduce malnutrition which often delays the development of the child’s capacity to progress in school Most of the students come to school without taking meals.  This can temper with sleeping patterns as well, making a child too tired to get anything out of a full day of school. Additionally, because of malnutrition the brain cannot develop properly, resulting in long term effects on learning abilities. Munyarari Primary School is one of the schools which has been receiving food hampers through food distribution projects.
